About the work

The plot follows Frieren, an elf mage who was part of the group of legendary heroes who defeated the Demon King and brought peace to the world. Due to the almost immortal longevity of his race, Frieren perceives the passage of time radically differently from humans. After witnessing the aging and passing of his former companions, he sets out on a new journey with a young generation of adventurers. The story combines moments of introspection, painful memories, and deadly magical battles as the protagonist tries to understand the human heart and the value of ephemeral connections.

The original work, written by Kanehito Yamada and illustrated by Tsukasa Abe, is serialized in the pages of Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine. Manga has established itself as one of the modern pillars of fantasy in Japan, winning the grand prize at the prestigious Manga Taisho 2021 and currently accumulating more than 35 million copies in circulation worldwide.
