The façade of adorable costumes and magical powers is once again the setting for a lethal survival game. It has been officially announced that the animated sequel Magical Girl Raising Project Restart (Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku Restart) will begin airing on Japanese television during this year's fall season.

The update was accompanied by the release of a second promotional trailer focused on the action sequences of this new installment. This video trailer offers a first approach to the opening of the series, a musical theme titled "No tears here" and performed by renowned singer Minori Chihara.

Details of Magical Girl Raising Project Restart

The production committee confirmed the return of the technical core responsible for the first delivery. Hiroyuki Hashimoto resumes the general direction of the project, while Takao Yoshioka continues to be in charge of the composition of the series and the scripts. Masako Ito adapts Maruino's original character designs to animation, again with the sound direction of Satoki Iida.

About the work

The franchise takes the classic tropes of the mahou shoujo genre and transforms them into a dark fantasy tale. The story sets a world where a simple mobile phone app grants real powers to ordinary girls. However, the dream turns into a nightmare when they are forced to participate in survival games where only the strongest manage to prevail. The "Restart" arc introduces new rules and brings back veteran characters like Snow White, who must face a renewed and lethal group of adversaries.

The series of light novels, written by Asari Endo, began publication in 2012, quickly consolidating itself for its brutal narrative twist. The first television anime premiered in 2016, making this sequel a highly anticipated return after several years of hiatus in animation.
