Publisher
Kadokawa on
Sunday revealed a third promotional video for the animated adaptation of the
manga Scenes From Awajima (known in Japanese as Awajima
Hyakkei), confirming that the series will premiere on Japanese television
on April 9.
Along with
this trailer, the production committee released a new promotional image. The
video also served to present an official fragment of the musical themes of the
series. Singer-songwriter Hana Hope (who participated in Ookami
to Koushinryou: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf) will be in charge of
performing the opening theme titled "blue hour". For its part, the
closing theme will be called "Hikari" and will be performed by Mika
Nakashima (recognized for her work in Takt Op. Destiny).
Scenes
From Awajima Details
The
prestigious Madhouse studio is responsible for the animation
production. The director's chair is occupied by veteran Morio Asaka,
whom you surely place for classics such as Chihayafuru, NANA and Galaxy
Angel. The technical team has Kunihiko Hamada (Cardcaptor
Sakura: Clear Card, Chihayafuru, NANA) in charge of
character design, while Yasuhiro Nakanishi (Chained Soldier, Shy, My
Love Story With Yamada-kun at Lv999) oversees the scripts of the series.
In other
important sections, Hideki Nakamura (INU-OH film, Mobile
Suit Gundam Hathaway film, Inuyashiki Last Hero) serves as
art director, Junko Sakai (My Love Story With Yamada-kun at
Lv999, Your Forma, Bibliophile Princess) is the
director of photographic composition and Harue Ono serves as
color designer. The soundtrack is being composed by Takahiro Obata (Cinderella
Nine, The Promised Neverland, SHOSHIMIN: How to become
Ordinary).
What is
the story about?
The series
follows the daily lives of a group of women on the island of Awajima, Japan,
exploring their relationships, routines, and the small moments that shape their
day-to-day lives. Shimura's style, known for intimate and emotional portraits
of female life, promises a quiet but nuanced story.
About
the original work
Author Takako
Shimura (creator of Wandering Son, Sweet Blue
Flowers, and Even Though We're Adults) began serialization of
this manga through Ohta Publishing's PocoPoco website
in July 2011. The work had a rather particular publication trajectory, since in
July 2016 it was moved to the Ohta Web Comic platform and then
went on hiatus in 2019.
Three years
later, the story resumed publication on a monthly basis starting in January
2022. After suffering a new hiatus in August of that same year, the manga
returned in November 2023, being published uninterruptedly until reaching its
final conclusion in March 2024.
