The most iconic student hoax in the female demographic will keep its doors open on television. Immediately after the broadcast of its twelfth and final episode, the production committee officially announced that the anime adaptation of Hana-Kimi will feature a second season.

The first installment of this school romantic comedy began airing during the winter season in January 2026, achieving a solid reception by faithfully sticking to the source material. Although the announcement confirmed the production of the animated sequel, the exact release window and possible additions to the voice cast are being kept in reserve until future announcements.

As it is an announcement issued at the same time as the conclusion of the debut season, the producers have not detailed substantial changes in the technical core, only ensuring the narrative continuity of the television project.

About the franchise

The main story follows Mizuki Ashiya, a young American of Japanese descent who is passionate about athletics. Driven by her admiration for high jumper Izumi Sano, Mizuki makes the radical decision to move to Japan and transfer to his school to help him regain his competitive level. The only downside is that the institution is an all-boys boarding school, forcing Mizuki to disguise herself as a man and become her idol's roommate, unleashing a series of misunderstandings, tension, and daily comedy on the school grounds.

The original work, recognized as one of the modern pillars of the shojo genre, was written and illustrated by the late mangaka Hisaya Nakajo. The manga was serialized in the pages of Hana to Yume magazine between 1996 and 2004. Despite Nakajo's unfortunate passing in 2023 at the age of 50, his legacy continues to expand and attract new generations through this recent television adaptation.
