If the
successful adaptation of One Piece left you wanting more after
the end of its second season, get ready for an incredibly long journey. The
creative team behind the Netflix series has just released a
flood of information about the future of the Straw Hat crew. Tomorrow Studios
president Becky Clements, along with showrunners Joe Tracz and
Ian Stokes, confirmed that they have a brutally ambitious master plan: to adapt
the entire story into a realistic span of 8 to 10 seasons.
The
Golden Rule: Manga is the Bible, Not Anime
One of the
greatest successes of the production is its religious respect for the original
work. The team revealed that they use Eiichiro Oda's manga as
their absolute base material, completely ignoring the anime version. The
reason? They want to preserve the purity and beauty of the printed pages
without the alterations or fills that the animated format usually has. And they
are not alone in this; Oda himself is up to his neck in the production. He
reviews everything from concept sketches and casting to
scripts and edited images, to the point of getting into writing software to
leave notes in real time. "Sometimes we don't agree at first, but
he's almost always right," Tracz said.
Anticipated
characters and the promise of Alabasta
Observant
fans noticed that the second season introduced familiar faces much earlier than
expected, such as Bartolomeo, Brook, and Sabo.
The creators explained that this creative decision helped lay the groundwork
for future plots and make the world feel more organic. However, there was one
absence that hurt the otaku community: Karoo. Princess Vivi's
faithful duck was temporarily removed to maintain the credibility and serious
tone of the infiltration of Baroque Works.
But you can
keep the torches, because there is excellent news. Joe Tracz guaranteed that
the adorable mascot will make his big debut in the already confirmed third
season, which will encompass the long-awaited and massive Alabasta arc. "Karoo
fans should get their popcorn ready," joked the producer, making
it clear that the budget and technology will finally do justice to one of the
most beloved companions in the entire franchise.
