Gundam franchise expands with new RG XARX-ZERO anime in 2027

True mecha fans have a new reason to get excited. The production committee behind the legendary giant robot franchise dropped a tremendous bombshell by officially announcing the animated adaptation of Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO. Through a spectacular first video trailer, it was confirmed that this new series will land on the small screen during the year 2027, marking the beginning of a completely new universe and detached from the classic timelines that we all know.

The most interesting thing about this new gem is its ambitious transmedia narrative. The anime is part of the colossal "RG Project", directly sharing its universe with the video game GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT that was revealed in mid-2026. The series will serve as a huge prequel set one hundred years before the events of the playable title, explaining how humanity had to leave Earth after losing control of extraterrestrial technologies that ended up creating an aggressive ecosystem known simply as the Apocalypse. This is where our protagonist, Ray Azumi, comes in, a young war orphan who awakens in the lunar colonies and is designated as the pilot of the experimental prototype Gundam ZERO.

A fresh reboot for the Reiwa era

To bring this dark space epic to life, acclaimed director Kenji Kamiyama took the reins of the project under the umbrella of the SOLA ANIMATION studio and the general production of Bandai Namco Filmworks. The director himself confessed that at first he was terrified of the idea of creating a Gundam concept from scratch without being able to use classic elements such as the Earth Federation or the Newtypes, but finally he accepted the challenge of designing a modern work for the new generations. The technical section shines on its own thanks to the impeccable mechanical designs by Eiichi Shimizu and the masterful soundtrack by Go Shiina.

Knowing that multimedia projects that combine anime and video games are usually a rather risky bet due to the enormous amount of lore that must be digested
