Sony Pictures Entertainment announced that the premiere of the live-action sequel film based on Aoi Hiiragi's manga Mimi wo Sumaseba will be delayed indefinitely.

The film was scheduled to be released on September 18, and the staff will announce the new release date as soon as it is decided. The statement detailed that production was scheduled to take place abroad, but because the COVID-19 pandemic paralyzed international air transport, production had to be suspended.

For his part, Hiiragi published the manga in the Ribon magazine of the Shueisha publishing house in 1989. Subsequently, he published a sequel titled Mimi wo Sumaseba: Shiawase na Jikan in 1995, and a spin-off manga titled Baron: Neko no Danshaku in 2002. The latter inspired a film released in 2002 and produced by Studio Ghibli.

The Mimi wo Sumaseba manga has previously inspired an animation film directed by Yoshifumi Kondou at Studio Ghibli and released in 1995.
