On the official Twitter account for Yugo Kobayashi ’s manga franchise “ Ao Ashi ,” it was announced that the story will end in two volumes , following the conclusion of the Barcelona Arc. The author shared the following statement:

  • « To all AO ASHI fans: I am Yugo Kobayashi, the author of AO ASHI. Thank you for always supporting me. AO ASHI will be reaching its final episode with the conclusion of the current match against Barcelona. When Ashito joined Team A in volume 11, the following opponents were already decided: Kashiwa, Tokyo V, Funabashi, Aomori, and Barcelona (though I was considering whether or not to include the match against Ganon-Osaka). I think I will be able to finish this story, which has progressed along with Ashito’s growth, with everything fully narrated. The total number of volumes will be 40, which is also a round number. I will do my best to put all my enthusiasm into the next two volumes, so please stick with me until the end. It is thanks to you, the readers, that AO ASHI has grown so much . »

For his part, Yuu Kobayashi began publishing the manga through Shogakukan 's Weekly Big Comic Spirits magazine in January 2015. The work inspired a twenty-four-episode anime adaptation produced by Production IG studios and released during the Spring-2022 period (April-June) .

Synopsis of Ao Ashi

In a quiet rural town, the spotlight of the high school soccer team is focused on one player: Ashito Aoi. Known for his unpredictable moves and self-centered playing style, Ashito is the lone powerhouse pushing his team through an important high school preliminary tournament. However, his winning streak is short-lived: an opponent causes Ashito to lose his temper and act violently, resulting in his expulsion from the rest of the match.

Without their star player, the team is quickly eliminated from the tournament. Just when they think all hope is lost, Ashito is approached by a youth team coach named Tatsuya Fukuda, who senses potential in him, and Fukuda invites him to tryouts in Tokyo. In an unfamiliar environment and surrounded by talent, Ashito must pull out all the stops to prove his worth and secure what could be a life-changing career.
