This
Friday, the official X account for Norio Sakurai's manga, Boku no Kokoro no
Yabai Yatsu, surprised fans by announcing a new spin-off manga that will debut
on July 22 on Akita Shoten's Champion Cross platform.
The new
series will be titled Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu: Love Comedy ga Hajimaranai
(translated as Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu: A Romantic Comedy That Won't
Begin) and will focus on Kana Ichikawa, Kyōtarō's older sister. The series will
be written by mangaka Haika Nanasaka, under Sakurai's direct supervision.
The Main
Series Continues to Reap Success
The
original manga, which began publication in March 2018, has gained widespread
popularity thanks to its blend of humor, romance, and psychological drama. The
story revolves around Kyōtarō Ichikawa, an introverted student with dark
thoughts who ends up falling in love with Anna Yamada, the most popular girl in
his class. Throughout the series, both protagonists reveal their true
personalities, revealing that they are much more alike than they appear.
The manga
currently has 12 compiled volumes published in Japan, the latest released last
Friday. Seven Seas Entertainment has licensed the series in English and will
publish volume 11 on August 5.
An
Expanding Universe
In addition
to the main manga, the franchise has inspired a light novel written by Kota
Nozomi and illustrated by Sakurai and sune, released on September 25 in Japan.
It has also been adapted into an anime, with its first season premiering in
April 2023 and a second season airing between January and April 2024. Both
installments are available on HIDIVE, including the English dubbed version.
A special
anime series based on the Twi-Yaba spin-off also premiered in December 2023,
also available on the platform. The series will soon receive a compilation film
featuring previously unseen footage and bonus material that will show the
future of Kyōtarō and Anna after the anime's finale. With this new spin-off
centered on Kana, the Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu universe continues to grow
and promises to continue captivating fans with new perspectives and endearing
characters.
