In the
run-up to the Annecy Animation Film Festival, director Shingo Natsume's
ambitious new project, known for his work on Sonny Boy and the first season of
One-Punch Man, was revealed. His next film, tentatively titled Ghost, will hit
theaters sometime in 2027.
An Unjust
World, a Lonely Struggle
The story
of Ghost follows Nike, a young woman determined to confront the world's
injustices to protect the beauty of the starry sky. Through her interactions
with other characters, the film will deeply explore her emotions, loneliness,
and courage, in a story that promises to resonate with the sensibilities of
today.
According
to Natsume himself, the film's goal is to "merge animation and
reality" to reflect contemporary times. With this premise, a work as
visually powerful as it is emotionally complex is expected.
A 2027
release date
With a 2027
release date, Ghost is currently in production and is being unveiled to
distributors this week at the Annecy event. Despite the delay, the first
promotional images have already generated excitement for its introspective
atmosphere and polished aesthetic.
If Natsume
maintains the emotional and stylistic tone of Sonny Boy, there's no doubt that
Ghost could become one of the most impactful titles of his career.
