The
animated series Me and the Alien MuMu, an adaptation of Hiroki
Miyashita's manga Uchūjin MūMū, announced that its second
part will begin on July 2 in Japan. The announcement was accompanied
by a new promotional image and a video revealing the new opening track: "MOVE
MOVE," performed by singer Ako.
An alien
comedy that returns with more domestic chaos
The series
debuted on April 10 in Japan through the Tokyo MX and BS11 channels,
and is also broadcast on MBS. The story revolves around Mu
Mu, a cat-like alien who arrives on Earth with a mission to learn about
human domestic technology. His unexpected coexistence with university
student Sakurako Umeyashiki unleashes an endless number of
absurd and endearing situations.
Voice
cast and production
The
direction is in charge of Tomoya Takahashi (Sailor Moon
Cosmos) under the OLM studio. Keiichirō Ōchi (Go,
Go, Loser Ranger!) oversees the scripts, while Kenji Ōta designs
the characters. The music is provided by the Kuricorder Quartet.
A story
that combines science fiction and nostalgia
Hiroki
Miyashita's manga
began as a one-shot in April 2019, and in June of the same
year it went into serialization in Young King Ours magazine.
Its eighth compilation volume was published on April
30.
The work
makes a nod to the culture of mystery and the paranormal in Japan, since the
name of the character Mu Mu alludes to the magazine Mū,
famous for addressing occult and conspiratorial topics, and which has been
referenced in other titles such as Weathering With You and Occultic;
Nine.
Beyond
MuMu: Miyashita's other success
In addition
to this alien comedy, Miyashita collaborates with Takeshi Natsuhara on
the manga Yakuza Reincarnation, currently in publication in Sunday
GX magazine. This series already has 17 volumes published
in Japan, and its English edition, by Seven Seas Entertainment,
will release volume 13 on July 1.
