During the
special broadcast for the seventh anniversary of the visual
novel Summer Pockets, developed by Visual Arts/Key, it
was announced that the recent anime adaptation will feature a compilation
film. The film will hit theaters in Japan on August 15.
Ahead of
the theatrical release, Netflix Japan will begin streaming the
TV series from August 8. However, it has not yet been confirmed if
this broadcast will be available outside Japan.
An anime
that arrived this spring
The anime
adaptation of Summer Pockets premiered on April 7 through
the Japanese channels Tokyo MX and BS11. The Crunchyroll platform
simultaneously streamed the series for audiences outside of Japan.
The story
of Summer Pockets is set on a rural and isolated island,
where "a nostalgic summer" is lived. The original
concept was developed by Jun Maeda, known for his work on Kanon, Clannad and Angel
Beats!. The character and art design was done by Na-Ga, Tsubasu
Izumi, Nagayama and Fumuyun.
A game
that left its mark and a universe that grows
The
original visual novel debuted for PC in June 2018 and was
later expanded to consoles like the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation
4. Its improved version, Summer Pockets REFLECTION BLUE, also
made its way to mobile devices. The English version was released in February
2020 via Steam.
On May 30,
a manga adaptation titled Summer Pockets -Natsu no Takaramono- was
released through Shueisha's Tonari no Young Jump site. In
addition, a spin-off manga titled Summer Pockets Mugyu Days ~Tsumugi no
Shima Sanpo~ began publication in Dengeki Moeoh magazine
and the KadoComi site on February 28, illustrated by Yūnon
Nagayama.
