On Monday, it was announced that the manga Hirayasumi, a slice-of-life work written by Keigo Shinzo, will be adapted into both anime and live-action television drama. The news was confirmed on the author's official account on X (formerly Twitter), accompanied by a commemorative illustration where he expressed his enthusiasm: "I'm very happy for the anime and drama adaptations! I can't wait to see how they turn out!"

By the studio behind Dead Dead Demons

The animated version will be produced by the Production +h. studio, known for its recent works such as The Orbital Children (2022) and Dead Dead Demons Dedede Destruction (2024). At the moment, the release date or the cast that will participate in the project have not been revealed.

The drama will arrive at NHK in autumn 2025

On the other hand, the live-action adaptation will be broadcast in the "Yoru Dora" night slot of the NHK General TV network. The drama will air from Monday to Thursday, from 10:45 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. (Japanese local time), during the fall season of 2025, which would correspond to approximately 3:45 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. (Spanish time, UTC+2).

An award-winning and internationally recognized work

Hirayasumi has been published since April 2021 in Shogakukan's Big Comic Spirits magazine. Its ninth volume is scheduled for July 30 in Japan. Throughout its publication, the series has been nominated for the Osamu Tezuka Cultural Award 2023 and received the award for Best Serialized Comic at Lucca Comics & Games 2024, the largest pop culture festival in Europe. To date, the work has more than 1.1 million copies in print worldwide.

What is Hirayasumi anime about?

The publisher VIZ Media, which publishes the manga in English and is also involved in the co-production of the anime with Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions, describes the story as follows:

Hiroto Ikuta is 29 years old and has no girlfriend, no stable job, and no plan for the future... And I couldn't be happier. Their laid-back attitude is not easy for everyone to understand, especially in a world fraught with anxiety, confusion, and loss. But both he and those around him are trying to make sense of what we call life.

With an animated and live-action adaptation on the way, Hirayasumi promises to thrill new audiences with its warm approach to the everyday and the human.
