Mangaka Fuyumi
Yajima returns with an original proposal when she presents her new
work entitled Aniki! Meshi Desu yo (Big brother! It's time to
eat.) The work debuted in this year's 39th issue of Kodansha's Morning
magazine, published last Thursday, August 28 in Japan (Friday
29 in Spain).
A plot
that mixes mafia and cuisine
The story
revolves around Jōichirō Hashiya, leader of the yakuza Sadorigumi
family, who loses his memory after being shot. In the midst of this crisis, his
loyal subordinate Kurume decides to take care of him and
prepare homemade meals in the hope that, little by little, his boss will
recover the lost memories. The manga promises a balance between the drama of
the criminal world and the human touch of cooking.
Fuyumi
Yajima's career
The author
had already attracted attention in 2016 with the launch of Boku-tachi
no Koi ni Happy End Nante Iranai (Our Love Doesn't Need a Happy
Ending) in Kodansha's digital magazine Hatsu Kiss. This work was completed
in February 2018 and was later licensed in English by Kodansha USA
Publishing.
A
premiere with a different flavor
With Aniki!
Meshi Desu I, Yajima ventures into a narrative that combines the
unexpected: the dark world of the yakuza with the warmth
of homemade cuisine. A proposal that is sure to appeal to fans of
mafia stories as well as lovers of food mangas.
