No Game
No Life was
one of those isekai that arrived before the genre exploded as we know it today.
Released in 2014 under the production of Madhouse, it quickly
became a phenomenon among fans, to the point of inspiring the successful
prequel in theaters No Game No Life: Zero in 2017. However,
since then, absolute silence: 11 years later, we still have no news of a second
season.
A
success that was never continued
The
strangest thing is that No Game No Life was not canceled due
to lack of popularity. The franchise sold well, the fandom embraced it,
and Yuu Kamiya's source material (light novels and manga)
still had stories to tell. The problem was another: the author's slowness to
publish new novels due to creative blocks and health problems, which left the
production without immediate material to adapt.
The
movie, better than the series
The
film No Game No Life: Zero was received with even more
enthusiasm than the television anime, reducing the fanservice and focusing on
the plot. This reinforced the idea that there was a lot of narrative potential
in the franchise, but Madhouse did not make a move again. The result is that
the work was frozen in the memory of fans as a great unfulfilled promise.
A
possible return?
Cases
like Bleach or even Panty & Stocking prove
that it's never too late for a revival. The most realistic option would be
for No Game No Life to return in movie format, as franchises
such as Kimetsu no Yaiba have already done. Adapting the
remaining volumes with this format could reactivate the saga and give it a
dignified closure.
